Lexpo Old Boys

 Lexpo Golf Society News

We play monthly at our member’s home Golf Clubs, on a rotary basis, around outer London to promote exercise and fellowship. . Irrespective of weather forecasts for south London we meet for breakfast and tee off is about 11.00 this is followed by an early evening dinner with post-mortem, excuses, boosting and presentation of the, by our independent adjudicator Dave G, Lobs Golf Trophy. Fees payable are the course guest or over 60 fees. Mick C maintains a Stableford scorecard giving novices a chance, we hope, to hold the trophy until the following month. Dates for the next match are set at dinner or by the host of the next venue.

Mitcham Report

A beautiful sunny day I turned up rather late at 1.00  had a brink in the bar and started talking to a member. Gone 1.30 now you must be on the last 9 so I had a good walk around the busy 2nd half of the course. Kept thinking there, they are I waited but the 3 with a buggy was not you. Sat on the 18th watched small groups tee off the 17th but they were not  you guys. Getting cold and darkish I went back to the bar then home. I enjoyed the sunshine walk and drink sorry I missed you.   John

Hello John

At least you got there, I was stuck on the Brentwood roundabout with a million lorry drivers, just made it to the Brentwood golf course for a bacon sandwich and a cuppa before the journey home only to be caught in another tailback.  I am beginning to think that at 77/78 my days of motorway travel is for the younger man.

Don't talk to strangers in the bar Chop, they could be your friendly local politician.   Hope you all had a good day boys, I will look forward to the report.

Regards

Ron

A real shame we didn't see you Ron. With all your A12 problems it might be quicker for you to find a course in Norway!

Chopper, well you made it all that way and didn't find us... please bring your mobile next time. Hope to get over and see you some other time soon..

Jim, don't break anything else will you. Winning the trophy again could go to my head!
Cheers
Roy

Hi All

And then there were four! Jim sent apologies for absence due to a hand injury and doctors orders. Ron did try but did not quite make it as he was stuck on the A12 at Brentwood so he turned around. John did attend attempting to join us around 13.00 pm when we were hacking our way around the course but as we did not appear whilst he was in the clubhouse he also turned around.
I think it is fair to say this was not one of our best rounds of golf although we did manage to complete the 18 holes before darkness descended. So Roy, "simply the best, better than all the rest" took home the trophy and will have to look after it until our January meeting as in December it will be our Xmas better ball competition!!! |We did say that we would do December golf at Darenth Valley but if Ron is struggling with travelling I am quite happy to use Brentwood GC.
What does everyone else think, answers or suggestions please by return!
The date we set aside was 11 December 17 and we would need to start pretty swiftly and be on the course at 11.00 at the latest, as this is our shortest daylight outing of the year although we are playing "Better Ball".

Looking forward to your responses, please.

All the best

Mick
Mick I should be okay for Brentwood and Christmas meal  even play a few shots perhaps John

I was surprised and honoured to receive the trophy this month. I think it was awarded more for stamina on the day than my golfing prowess...I had visions of pushing the buggy to finish line.

Sorry I won't be able to attend the December meeting due to work, but I will drape the trophy in tinsel and bow to it daily over Christmas!

Have a Happy Christmas all if I don't see you before & looking forward to bashing the balls about in the new year.

Cheers,
Roy
Thanks Mick and congratulations to Roy.

Whatever the venue I am saddened to say that I will take Roy's valued advice and join a club in Europe, the lorry drivers are more friendly and can get us through customs much quicker.   I suppose the good news is that I will buy the drinks if the golf goes ahead, it has been good company over the golfing years but all good things and all that.

If you do decide on Brentwood please Email and I will book an early time.   If not :-

See you all at the Christmas drink.

Merry Christmas to all

Best wiishes Ron
